In 1992, Coach Mike Ditka and the Chicago Bears organization invested in my kicking services during mini camp, summer training camp, and two “tune up” visits during the season. The results were positive for not only the kickers, but also the special teams coach.

This was observed by a 1992 Chicago Daily Herald article:

“When the Bears hired kicking consultant Gary Zauner to work with special teams coach Danny Abramowicz and kickers Kevin Butler, Chris Gardocki and Maury Buford, he was taking over a job that once belonged to Mike Ditka and former special teams coach Steve Kazor.

None mind giving up that area of specialized instruction. ‘I think Gary Zauner helped because that’s what he’s an expert in, teaching kickers, Ditka said. ‘That takes a lot of burden off of Danny and me. It was something Steve Kazor and I tried to do, but it’s just too hard to do.’ ”
